The Importance of Choosing the Right Domain Name

Have you ever visited a website and it had a very memorable name? What made that name memorable? Was it short and thus easy to type? Was it catchy? If you take a look at many Hollywood movies they only have one or 2 words such as Armageddon, Spiderman, Next, Crank, 300. Of course, there are exceptions such as Gone with the Wind or Silence of the Lambs.

The point is that their titles all provoked interest, were short and easy to remember. When you’re planning your website, the domain needs to be taken into consideration. For example, www.laddersuk.com or www.ladders.co.uk is a nice, short and concise title for ladders located in the UK.

Remember, you are actually creating a ‘brand’ or a ‘logo’ when you name your site. This may not be obvious, however, when someone asks, “Hey, do you have a website?” and you answer, “Yes, I do, it’s ____________________” and the name isn’t memorable then you will have lost a potential visitor or customer.

Your website will also go on every other form of advertisement, stationary, letterhead that you may have in order to generate business. Again, a well thought domain name can increase the chances that you’ll be remembered (and thus generate sales).
